New anesthesia approach cuts opioid use after hernia surgery
NCT ID NCT05953428
First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether using fewer opioids during and after hiatal hernia surgery could lower the amount of strong painkillers patients need at home. Fifty adults having laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair were randomly assigned to receive either an opioid-sparing or standard opioid-based anesthesia. The goal was to see if the opioid-sparing approach could reduce opioid use after discharge while still controlling pain and avoiding side effects like nausea.
