NCT ID NCT06709755
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a group-based program called Supporting Teen Problem Solving (STePS) designed to reduce diabetes-specific emotional distress in teenagers with type 1 diabetes. The program is based on cognitive-behavioral and problem-solving approaches. Researchers will enroll 360 teens across 6 U.S. sites, comparing in-person and telehealth delivery against an educational control group. The goal is to see if STePS improves emotional well-being and helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels over time.

What this could lead to
If successful, this program could provide a proven way to ease diabetes-related stress and prevent worsening blood sugar control in teenagers.
What could go wrong
This is an effectiveness-implementation trial, not a new drug. The program may not work as well in real-world settings as in earlier studies, and benefits may vary across different groups.
