Doctors test smart alerts to fight superbugs in Kids' ERs

NCT ID NCT06788093

Summary

This study tests whether computer alerts in hospital systems can help doctors prescribe fewer unnecessary antibiotics to children with common lung infections like pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and asthma flare-ups. It involves 2,800 children at three U.S. hospitals. The goal is to safely reduce antibiotic use, since these infections are often viral and don't respond to antibiotics, and overuse can lead to side effects and antibiotic resistance.
