NCT ID NCT05953662

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study compares a newer, less invasive surgery (reduced-port laparoscopy) to standard laparoscopic surgery for people with colon or upper rectal cancer. The goal is to see if the newer approach is as safe and effective, while possibly causing less pain and faster recovery. 500 adults aged 18-80 with non-metastatic colorectal cancer are taking part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Reduced-port laparoscopic surgery
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less invasive surgical option for colon and upper rectal cancer, potentially reducing pain, recovery time, and medical costs.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 study, so results are preliminary. The reduced-port technique is more difficult for surgeons and may not be safer or as effective as standard surgery. Long-term outcomes are not yet known.
