Summary

This study is testing whether some rectal cancer patients can safely avoid major surgery. It focuses on 200 patients whose tumors disappear completely after initial chemotherapy and radiation. Instead of surgery, patients will enter a closely monitored follow-up program to see if the cancer stays away and to measure their quality of life.
