Could a common antibiotic boost rectal cancer treatment?

Summary
This study is testing if adding the antibiotic metronidazole to standard pre-surgery treatment for rectal cancer can reduce certain harmful bacteria in the gut. Researchers want to see if this change improves how well the cancer responds to treatment. The trial will enroll 60 adults with locally advanced rectal cancer who are scheduled for standard chemotherapy and radiation.
