New trick for aging eyes: text remapping boosts reading in macular degeneration

NCT ID NCT03848663

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looks at whether shifting text to undamaged areas of the visual field can improve reading for people with central vision loss due to age-related macular degeneration. About 108 participants with central vision loss (and some with simulated vision loss) will read words and sentences with and without this text-remapping technique. The goal is to see if it helps them read faster and make fewer mistakes.
