One-Week radiation after breast cancer surgery could be just as good, with better looks
NCT ID NCT05417516
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two types of radiation therapy for women with early-stage breast cancer who have had a lumpectomy. One group receives radiation to the whole breast, the other only to the area where the cancer was removed. Both treatments are given once a day for about one week. The goal is to see if the shorter, partial treatment works as well at preventing cancer from coming back and causes fewer cosmetic changes to the breast. The study plans to enroll 910 women across multiple centers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- radiation therapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a shorter, more convenient radiation option after breast cancer surgery that preserves breast appearance.
- What could go wrong
- This is a large Phase 3 trial, but results are not yet available. Partial breast radiation may not control cancer as well as whole breast radiation in the long term.
