Race against time: Fast-Track test aims to get critically ill patients on the right antibiotics sooner

NCT ID NCT06478953

Summary

This small, completed pilot study tested whether using a rapid lab test could help doctors choose the best antibiotics faster for critically ill patients in the ICU who are on breathing machines and have suspected pneumonia. Forty patients were randomly assigned to either get the new rapid test or receive standard care. The main goal was to see if this approach was practical and safe, and if it could shorten the time to start the most effective antibiotic treatment.
