New ECT method may reduce memory loss in depression treatment

NCT ID NCT05402657

First seen Mar 15, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested two ways of giving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to 156 people with severe depression. One method uses a frontoparietal placement and the other uses a temporoparietal placement. The goal was to see if the frontoparietal method works as well but causes fewer memory problems. Results could help doctors choose the best ECT approach.
