Thyroid cancer study: does a low iodine diet boost radioactive iodine absorption?

NCT ID NCT05599139

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looks at how a 7-day low iodine diet changes the amount of radioactive iodine absorbed by the body in people who have had their thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer. About 25 adults will take a small dose of radioactive iodine before and after the diet to measure the difference. The goal is to understand if the diet helps the body take up more iodine, which could improve future treatments.
