Period pads could replace pap smears: At-Home HPV test under study

NCT ID NCT07281599

First seen Dec 26, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a special menstrual pad (Q-Pad) can accurately detect high-risk HPV from period blood collected at home. About 450 people who need a colposcopy after an abnormal Pap or HPV test will use the pad during their period and mail it to a lab. Researchers will compare the pad's results with standard cervical samples and biopsies to see if the at-home method is reliable and easy to use.
