Drug trial aims to get bowels moving again after surgery

NCT ID NCT05334485

Summary

This study is testing whether a drug called pyridostigmine can safely help restart bowel function in patients who develop a temporary bowel paralysis called ileus after colon or rectal surgery. About 50 adults who have this complication will be randomly assigned to receive either the study drug or a placebo, in addition to standard care. The main goal is to see if the drug helps patients pass gas and stool sooner and tolerate food faster after their surgery.
