Toothache wars: new study tests less invasive fixes for deep decay
NCT ID NCT07375576
First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study compares three treatments for deep cavities causing severe tooth pain: total pulpotomy (removing the top part of the tooth's nerve), radicular pulpotomy (removing a bit more of the nerve), and standard root canal treatment. About 99 adults with deep decay in their lower back teeth will be randomly assigned to one of the three procedures. The goal is to see which approach best controls pain right after treatment and keeps the tooth healthy over a year.
