Can talk therapy help heal trauma behind bars?
NCT ID NCT05432817
Summary
This study is testing whether a specific type of group therapy, called Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), can help reduce symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in incarcerated men and women. About 117 participants are randomly assigned to either receive the therapy sessions immediately or be placed on a waitlist for comparison. The main goal is to see if the therapy lowers PTSD symptom severity and to understand how it might work by reducing feelings like hopelessness and self-blame.
