Scientists probe hidden mental processes behind teen suicide risk
NCT ID NCT06921226
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study investigates the psychological processes—such as feelings of being a burden, impulsivity, and suicidal thoughts—that may lead to risk-taking and suicidal behavior. Researchers will follow 1,400 vulnerable adolescents and adults aged 12 to 65, including those already receiving mental health support. By measuring these factors through questionnaires, the team hopes to uncover early warning signs that could inform future prevention strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could identify key psychological warning signs that help predict and prevent suicidal behavior in at-risk youth and adults.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It aims to understand risk factors, not test a therapy, so direct benefits to participants are unlikely.
