Mind over back pain: study tests if thoughts shape recovery

NCT ID NCT07306312

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether psychological factors like fear of movement, anxiety, and confidence can predict how much pain and disability improve after manual therapy for chronic low back pain. Sixty adults aged 18-65 with low back pain lasting over 3 months will be split into two groups: one receiving manual therapy alone, and the other adding pain neuroscience education. The goal is to understand which mental factors matter most for recovery, not to test a new treatment.
