Magic mushroom compound tested to break opioid addiction

NCT ID NCT06796062

Summary

This study is testing whether a single dose of psilocybin, the active compound in 'magic mushrooms,' can help people with opioid addiction who are still using illicit drugs despite being on standard methadone treatment. It will involve 240 participants who will receive either a low, medium, or high dose of psilocybin in a controlled, supportive setting. The main goal is to see if the treatment safely helps people stay off illicit opioids for longer periods and reduces cravings.
