Magic mushroom therapy trial aims to help veterans battle depression and addiction

NCT ID NCT07499583

Summary

This study is testing whether a single dose of psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms'), given alongside supportive psychotherapy, is safe and can help reduce symptoms of severe, treatment-resistant depression and substance use disorders. It will involve 50 veterans and first responders. Researchers will compare three different doses to see their effects on substance use and depression over six weeks, while also studying brain changes.
