VA launches major trial: psychedelic mushroom therapy for Veterans' depression

Summary
This study is testing whether psilocybin, the active compound in 'magic mushrooms,' combined with psychological support, can help veterans with severe depression that hasn't improved with standard treatments. The trial will include 240 U.S. military veterans, some of whom also have PTSD. Participants will receive two guided psilocybin sessions and be followed for six months to measure effects on depression and monitor safety.
