Magic mushroom compound tested as potential lifeline for deepest depression

NCT ID NCT05220410

Summary

This study tested whether a single, supervised dose of psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms') is safe and can help people with severe depression that hasn't responded to other treatments, and who also have ongoing suicidal thoughts. It involved 20 adults who had not improved after trying at least two standard antidepressant medications. The main goal was to see if the treatment could reduce the severity of suicidal thinking and depression symptoms.
