Magic mushroom drug tested to ease surgery pain and cut opioid use

NCT ID NCT07406828

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether a single dose of psilocybin, the active compound in 'magic mushrooms,' is safe and practical to give to adults recovering from major trauma surgery who also have opioid use disorder. Researchers want to see if this one-time dose can help reduce post-surgery pain, lower anxiety and depression, and decrease the need for opioid painkillers during recovery. The study will involve 70 participants who are in the hospital after surgery.
