Magic mushroom compound tested for stubborn opioid addiction

Summary

This study tests whether a single dose of psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) can help people with opioid use disorder who continue to use illicit opioids even while on methadone treatment. About 240 participants will receive either a high, medium, or low dose of psilocybin and be followed for 24 weeks to see if they reduce or stop illicit opioid use. The goal is to improve treatment outcomes for those not helped by standard care.
