Brain scans reveal how psilocybin may rewire depression

NCT ID NCT06072898

First seen Apr 06, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study uses brain scans to see if psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) changes how the brain works in people with depression. Fifty adults will receive either psilocybin or a placebo during two therapy sessions, and have an MRI to measure brain activity and blood flow. The goal is to understand if psilocybin specifically affects mood-related brain circuits, not to test it as a treatment.
