Could a shot of your own blood fix a torn shoulder tendon?

NCT ID NCT07659600

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This trial tests whether an injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) made from a patient's own blood can help heal partial tears of the supraspinatus tendon in the shoulder. One hundred adults with confirmed tears will receive either PRP plus standard physical therapy or therapy alone. Researchers will track pain, movement, and MRI changes over 24 months to see if PRP improves healing and function.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, natural treatment to help heal partial rotator cuff tears and reduce shoulder pain without surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage trial with no phase, so results are uncertain. PRP may not improve healing or symptoms more than standard care alone.
