Could your own blood ease hip pain? PRP injection shows promise

NCT ID NCT06332352

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a single injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the hip joint can relieve pain and improve function in people with a torn hip labrum. Thirty adults aged 18 to 49 who had not improved with standard care received the injection. Researchers tracked their pain, hip function, and overall health using surveys over six months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-surgical option to reduce hip pain and improve daily function for people with labral tears.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 30 participants and no comparison group, so results may not apply widely. PRP injections can cause temporary pain or swelling.
