Summary

This study tested which of two radiation approaches works better to control cancer that has spread to the fluid-filled spaces around the brain and spine. One method treats the entire fluid system with proton radiation, while the other targets only symptomatic areas with photon radiation. Researchers compared how well each method prevented the cancer from worsening and managed symptoms in 102 patients with various solid tumors.
