Precision proton beams target breast cancer with fewer side effects

NCT ID NCT01310530

Summary

This study is testing whether proton radiation focused only on the area where a breast tumor was removed can effectively control cancer while reducing side effects. The treatment targets 150 patients with early-stage breast cancer who have had surgery but need radiation. Researchers want to see if this more precise approach lowers recurrence rates and causes fewer side effects than traditional whole-breast radiation.
