New radiation technique aims to protect hearts of breast cancer patients

NCT ID NCT01758445

Summary

This study is testing whether a newer type of radiation called proton therapy can reduce long-term side effects for women with stage II or III breast cancer who need radiation after surgery. The goal is to see if this method lowers the risk of future heart problems and second cancers compared to standard radiation. Researchers will follow 220 participants for up to 15 years to track their health outcomes.
