Protein showdown: which type boosts amino acids best?

NCT ID NCT07677098

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares how quickly and how much amino acids appear in the blood after healthy young adults drink a beverage containing one of several protein isolates (whey, calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, magnesium caseinate, or potassium caseinate). Participants will try each protein drink in random order, and researchers will measure amino acid levels over six hours. The goal is to understand how protein type and mineral form influence protein digestion and absorption.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

protein beverage (whey, calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, magnesium caseinate, potassium caseinate)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help refine dietary protein recommendations for optimal amino acid absorption.

What could go wrong

This is a small, short-term study in healthy young adults, so results may not apply to other populations or long-term health outcomes.
