Summary
This study tests whether a drug called recombinant human brain natriuretic peptide (rhBNP) can prevent acute kidney injury in 694 high-risk adults undergoing heart surgery with a heart-lung machine. Participants receive the drug or a placebo continuously for about 48 hours during and after surgery. The goal is to see if rhBNP reduces kidney damage, which is a common and serious complication after heart surgery.
