New trial tests faster radiation for men with spread prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT04610372
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares standard moderate radiation (4 weeks) with shorter, more intense radiation schedules (1-2 weeks or a single session) for treating the prostate in men whose cancer has spread to a few other spots (oligometastatic). The goal is to see if the shorter treatments are as well-tolerated and effective, while being more convenient and cost-effective. About 168 men who have not had prior prostate cancer treatment (except hormone therapy) will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Radiation therapy (hypofractionated external beam radiotherapy, high dose rate brachytherapy, permanent seed implant, or stereotactic body radiotherapy)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer men with oligometastatic prostate cancer a more convenient and cost-effective radiation option with similar safety and quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- This is a Phase 2 trial with only 168 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The shorter radiation schedules could have different side effects or be less effective in the long run.
