One gel, two jobs: spacer could replace painful markers in prostate cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT05650021

Summary

This study tested if a special gel, already used to protect the rectum during prostate radiation, could also be used to position patients for treatment. If it works, it could eliminate the need for a separate, invasive procedure to implant metal markers. The research involved 17 men with prostate cancer to see if aligning the radiation machine using the gel was as accurate as using the traditional markers.
