Lying face down for days: could longer sessions save more lives?
NCT ID NCT06854627
First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tests whether keeping patients with severe lung failure (ARDS) lying on their stomach for more than 48 hours straight helps them survive better than the usual 16-24 hour daily sessions. About 780 adults on breathing machines will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches. Researchers will track survival at 28 and 90 days, as well as days off the ventilator and out of the hospital.
