First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving a special mix of three Bifidobacterium probiotics to preterm infants in the NICU can improve their gut bacteria balance and reduce harmful germs. Researchers will compare babies who get the probiotic with those who do not, measuring changes in gut microbes and short-chain fatty acids over three weeks. The goal is to lower the risk of serious complications like necrotizing enterocolitis and sepsis. The study involves 72 premature infants born between 28 and 34 weeks.
