Could probiotics be the key to lowering uric acid?
NCT ID NCT07141888
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether taking probiotics (with or without extra fiber) every day for 6 weeks can lower uric acid levels in people with hyperuricemia. Researchers will enroll 99 adults with high uric acid and compare the probiotic groups to a placebo. They also aim to figure out who benefits most based on gut bacteria, diet, and genetics, with the goal of creating personalized treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Probiotics (two strains) with or without beta-glucan fiber
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a natural, personalized dietary supplement to help manage high uric acid levels and reduce gout risk.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with only 99 participants over 6 weeks. Results may not apply to everyone, and the effect on uric acid may be small or absent.
