Could a probiotic ease Veterans' PTSD symptoms?
NCT ID NCT04150380
Summary
This study tested whether taking a specific probiotic (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG) for 8 weeks could reduce body inflammation and ease symptoms of PTSD in veterans. It involved 118 veterans with PTSD and a related bowel condition who were randomly assigned to take either the probiotic or a placebo. The main goal was to see if the probiotic lowered a blood marker of inflammation and to explore if it also improved PTSD symptoms, gut health, and stress response.
