First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding a probiotic called Pediococcus acidilactici to standard antipsychotic medication could help reduce metabolic problems like high cholesterol and blood sugar in people with early schizophrenia. 36 adults took either the probiotic or a placebo for a period of time. The goal was to see if the probiotic could improve markers of metabolic syndrome, which is a common side effect of antipsychotic drugs.
