New drug aims to save sight in optic neuritis patients

NCT ID NCT07623668

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This Phase 3 trial tests whether privosegtor, a neuroprotective drug, can improve vision recovery in people having their first episode of optic neuritis. About 210 adults aged 18 to 50 will receive either privosegtor or a placebo, both alongside standard steroid treatment. The main goal is to see if more patients gain at least 15 letters on a vision chart after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
privosegtor (OCS-05)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a new treatment that helps people with optic neuritis recover more vision than standard care alone.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but it is still experimental. The drug may not improve vision more than placebo, and side effects are possible.
