New study tests if proton beam therapy can save brain function in tumor patients

NCT ID NCT06831461

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study compares two types of radiation therapy for adults with brain tumors that have a good outlook. Standard X-ray radiation (photon) can cause memory loss, hearing problems, and hormone issues later on. Proton beam therapy delivers radiation more precisely, potentially reducing these side effects. The trial will randomly assign 156 participants to receive either proton or photon therapy and track their cognitive function, hearing, hormones, and overall survival for five years.
