Could a blood clot replace gum surgery for dental implants?
NCT ID NCT07649239
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two methods to improve gum thickness around dental implants in the front of the mouth. One method uses a platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membrane made from the patient's own blood, while the other uses a standard connective tissue graft. The trial will enroll 26 adults with a single missing tooth in the esthetic zone and measure gum thickness, bone loss, and patient satisfaction. If PRF works well, it could offer a less invasive option with fewer side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membrane
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simpler, less painful way to improve gum thickness around dental implants, especially in visible front teeth.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 26 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. PRF may not be as effective as the standard graft for long-term gum stability.
