Could your own blood speed wisdom tooth recovery?
NCT ID NCT07672951
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether placing a clot made from a patient's own blood (platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF) into the socket after wisdom tooth removal can reduce pain, jaw stiffness, and facial swelling. About 134 adults with impacted lower wisdom teeth will receive either PRF or a standard gelatin sponge. Researchers will measure pain, mouth opening, and swelling before surgery and again on days 1 and 7 after the procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)
What this could lead to
If it works, PRF could become a standard, low-cost way to speed recovery and reduce discomfort after wisdom tooth surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial with 134 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. PRF may not outperform the standard gelatin sponge, and individual healing varies.
