Gum disease breakthrough: your own blood may boost healing

NCT ID NCT07525531

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or injectable PRF (i-PRF) from a person's own blood to standard deep cleaning helps treat gum disease. Fifty-six adults with periodontitis received either standard treatment alone or with PRF/i-PRF added. Researchers measured gum pocket depth and inflammation markers over six weeks to see if the blood-based treatment improved healing.
