New study aims to stop vaginal dryness before it starts in breast cancer patients
NCT ID NCT05910294
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether starting sexual health counseling and using non-hormonal moisturizer right away can prevent vaginal dryness and sexual problems in premenopausal women with breast cancer who are on ovarian suppression. Fifty women will be randomly assigned to either this early prevention approach or the usual care of treating symptoms after they appear. All participants will complete surveys about their sexual health to see which approach works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- non-hormonal moisturizer and sexual health counseling
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could help prevent common sexual side effects in young breast cancer patients, improving quality of life without hormones.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is simple and low-risk, but it may not be effective for all.
