Early infection treatment tested to stop premature births

NCT ID NCT00642980

Summary

This large study tested whether treating a common vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis) early in pregnancy could prevent premature birth and late miscarriage. Over 3,100 pregnant women were randomly assigned to receive either an antibiotic (clindamycin) or a placebo. The goal was to see if early treatment could reduce the risk of babies being born too early.
