First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested three mouth care methods—colostrum (first breast milk), chlorhexidine (antiseptic), and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)—to see which best prevents lung infections in premature babies on ventilators. Eighty preterm infants in the NICU were enrolled. The goal was to find a simple, safe way to reduce pneumonia risk in these vulnerable newborns.
