New shot aims to stop dangerous leaks after pancreas surgery

NCT ID NCT07479784

Summary

This study is testing whether an injectable medication called octreotide microspheres can prevent a serious complication called pancreatic fistula after surgery to remove part of the pancreas. About 230 patients scheduled for this specific pancreas surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the real medication or a placebo (dummy shot). The main goal is to see if the medication safely reduces the rate of these dangerous internal leaks in the 60 days after surgery.
