NCT ID NCT06974604
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether a dexamethasone mouthwash can lower the chance of painful mouth sores (stomatitis) caused by the cancer drug datopotamab deruxtecan. About 60 people with advanced breast or lung cancer will use the mouthwash for the first five days of each treatment cycle. The goal is to reduce mouth sore rates by 20% compared to historical data.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dexamethasone mouthwash
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple way to prevent painful mouth sores in patients receiving this type of chemotherapy, improving their quality of life during treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 participants and no comparison group, so results may not be definitive. The mouthwash may not reduce sores enough to be clinically meaningful.
