New surgical technique aims to stop debilitating swelling after breast cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT03990610

Summary

This study is testing whether a special surgical procedure can prevent a painful complication called lymphedema (arm swelling) in breast cancer patients having breast reconstruction. During reconstruction surgery, doctors transfer healthy lymph nodes from another part of the body to replace those removed during cancer treatment. Researchers will follow 30 patients for two years to see if this approach lowers the risk of developing swelling compared to patients who did not have the procedure.
