New wound dressing could stop dangerous infections after amputation surgery

NCT ID NCT03773575

Summary

This study tested whether a special vacuum-sealed dressing called PREVENA could prevent wound complications after leg amputation surgery. Researchers compared this dressing to standard wound care in 272 adults who had above- or below-knee amputations. They tracked whether the special dressing reduced infections, wound openings, and other problems in the first month after surgery.
